Oyo News Update
Oyo, a company which has earned a lot of name in the hotel sector, has taken a new decision. Although this new policy can be problematic for many people, it will also have many benefits. Currently, this new policy is being started from Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh and if it remains successful then it will be expanded further in different cities of India.
All couples, even those who have made online bookings, may have to provide valid proof of their relationship before checking into the hotel, as per the new guidelines. This instruction came into effect with immediate effect in Meerut. In fact, residents of some cities have filed a petition to prohibit unmarried couples from checking in at Oyo Hotels. In view of this, Oyo has decided to change its policy.
Oyo said the new rule is part of its push to position the brand as a safe and trusted option for family, student, business, tourism, religious tourists, and solo travelers. This rule has not been implemented in the whole country yet, it has been started only on a trial basis in Uttar Pradesh.
But look, if I tell you the most important thing here because if you have read about this news anywhere on social media, then it is being said everywhere that unmarried couples will no longer be able to go to Oyo hotels, but the actual reality is that Oyo has given an option to its hotels.

See what used to happen earlier, no Oyo hotel owner could refuse you a stay because you were an unmarried couple, the policy of Oyo was that unmarried couples are also welcome in our hotels. So the hotel owners did not have any option; they had to get unmarried couples checked in. Ever since the news broke that Oyo has banned unmarried couples, a lot of memes have been created on the internet.
Laws for Unmarried Couples in India
Now let us talk about what the law of our country says about whether unmarried couples can stay in hotels. So see this is very similar to a live-in relationship. A live-in relationship is not written in any law in our country and living in a live-in relationship is not a crime. You must have seen many times that if unmarried couples are caught in a hotel, then the police often harass them and beat them, so this is a basic legal knowledge which everyone in our country should have that if unmarried couples are staying in a hotel, then they are not doing anything illegal.
It is not a crime for unmarried couples to stay in a hotel but some things should be kept in mind like the age of the boy and the girl should be more than 18 years they should have mutual consent and there should not be any kind of coercion. Considering the culture of our country, some people do not consider it good, hence this option has been given to the hotels

But now the hotel owners have been given an option that if they feel that their city or society is not so broad-minded and does not want to allow unmarried couples to stay in the hotel, then they can refuse this. So the real truth of this news is that the hotel owners in Meerut have been given the option that if you do not want to give entry to unmarried couples, then you can refuse them. This means there is no compulsion from Oyo now that you have to allow unmarried couples.
Oyo’s revenue might also see a dip after Oyo bans unmarried couples in their hotel rooms as a major part of the revenue comes from these unmarried people who come to spend time together in hotels. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future.
Oyo’s reputation has been tarnished a lot in the past few times due to this incident. People often started to believe that people go to Oyo only to be physically intimate. The higher authorities of Oyo said that they were getting a lot of complaints from the people living nearby, due to which they had to take this decision. So whatever perception was created about Oyo, now they are trying to correct it.
Conclusion on “Oyo Bans Unmarried Couples”
It is obvious that if such a perception is created about Oyo hotels, then family people and religious people will not like to go there. Even business-class people are hesitant to book in Oyo hotels as such couples would be coming there, it is better to book somewhere else. So that people who often book hotels also get a safe and good experience, Oyo has brought a new change keeping in mind all these things.
So it is not that Oyo has made it impossible for unmarried couples to enter, hotel owners have been given an option here whether to let unmarried couples check-in or not. Some people on social media are saying that this is the start of the downfall for OYO Rooms after OYO bans unmarried couples in their hotel rooms. What is your opinion on this?
